In 2006, SAM missionaries planted Iglesia Mil Palmeras, in Pucallpa, Peru, also known as Thousand Palms Church. Today, Mil Palmeras is transforming its community by embodying the Kingdom of God. With close to 300 congregants, they are actively engaging the city of Pucallpa and beyond into the Amazon to plant new, transformational churches that impact the world for Christ.
The originating work through Mil Palmeras has already birthed a vision to begin a church multiplication movement in Lima, with an urban church plant at its heart. Additional works in the department of Ayacucho are gaining more traction as SAM’s church planting teams there grow. Back in the jungle region where Pucallpa sits at the headwaters of the Amazon River, SAM Peru’s leadership team is exploring opportunities for church growth in the areas in and around Satipo and Tarapoto.
The Peru Church Planting fund helps fuel the work to see the vision become a reality: local expressions of the church of Jesus Christ transforming communities from the jungle to the highlands to the desert coast of Peru.
