The Ashaninka Bible Institute opens its doors every August and September, offering biblical and pastoral training. The Institute is designed to meet the basic needs of the Ashaninka people in central Peru.
At the Institute, students prepare for a variety of ministries in the local church through Bible instruction and mentoring. Ashaninka speakers teach the courses in their native language. Approximately 70% of graduates serve in local communities today. The students live at the South America Mission Mazamari property, and some of their coursework includes: The Life of Christ, Old Testament Survey, and Missions. Graduates earn a basic Diploma of Theology after the completion of three two-month sessions, over three years.
Ashaninka students come from the 100 or so villages scattered throughout the central jungle region of Peru. Often spouses and children accompany the students and study as well. During their stay, the families are able to grow in fundamental areas of learning, such as reading, or in areas of family life, such as learning how to manage a Christian household.
Since the 1990’s the Ashaninka Bible Institute has served small churches among the 30,000 Ashaninka tribespeople. Institute students and graduates started a number of those worshipping communities. Our vision is for Ashaninka churches to transform through a desire to know God deeply, worship authentically and make disciples. We want the local churches to shine brilliantly as the pillar and wisdom of truth in indigenous communities. We envision a dynamic church with effective leadership in the more than 80 Ashaninka communities.
The Ashaninka Bible Institute fund allows us to sustain the general operations of the ministry, which includes supporting the Institute staff made up of Ashaninka pastors and teachers.
