We believe that children and youth are vital to the work of redeeming a community. Children’s outreach and youth ministry directly impact family life and open doors to ministry with parents. Furthermore, we see the future hope of the effects of leadership training with the young people in a community.
Latin America is a family-oriented culture and is well-suited for family ministry. Colombia: Children’s mentorship and young adult discipleship
The Fundación Comunidad Viva is a vibrant, growing ministry in Bogota, Colombia. One facet of this ministry is the SuperVacas program which began as a VBS but has grown to a larger community program. Additionally, the house churches formed through FCV host many children in the neighborhoods of Bogota who are in need of volunteers to provide after school programs and church ministry. The Fundación is seeking a missionary to oversee their children’s programs within the house churches, volunteer at the local community center, and help plan and implement the SuperVacas program a few times per year.
One of the Fundación’s many initiatives is La Cueva, a program designed for young adults who grew out of the government’s foster care system. The program focuses on teaching life skills and literacy with an emphasis on discipleship and emotional health. Because of their continual moves from one institution to another, these young adults often have academic gaps and many have past experiences with trauma. The Fundación is in need of someone who has a heart for at-risk youth, discipleship, and adult education.

Our missionaries throughout Latin America have chosen to raise their children overseas and invite their children into ministry. We treasure our MKs and in many of our communities we acknowledge the need for MK discipleship and care. If you have a heart for mentoring young students or teenagers, missionary kids would benefit from a stable and meaningful relationship outside of their parents’ ministry context.
Additionally, some of our missionary families are in need of long-term homeschooling services. If you have experience for children’s education and care, contact SAM’s Director of Mobilization, Sue Post, to learn more about these opportunities: firstname.lastname@example.org
