Chris and Cristi serve in Armenia, Quindio, Colombia, with three of their seven children. Their four adult children live in the US, along with their six grandchildren.
Chris and Cristi both grew up in a Christian home, are pastor’s kids, and began following Jesus at a young age. Chris joined the US Air Force at 17 years old, and a year later, he and Cristi met at church. They became friends, started dating, and were married just over a year and a half later in 1992. Just a couple of months after they married, they got their first experience living cross-culturally when the USAF took them to Germany.
Over the next 23 years, they traveled worldwide as Chris served as an Air Force photographer and public affairs specialist, and Cristi enjoyed being a full-time mom. In each place the AF assigned them, they joined a local church and served as leaders in youth ministry and other areas. During their last military assignment, they did foster care and were blessed to adopt three of the seven children they fostered.
They had always planned to open their own photo studio upon Chris´ retirement from the Air Force, but God had different plans. As they approached military retirement, God confirmed His calling for them to serve as missionaries to South America. After joining South America Mission, they were sent to Colombia, serving alongside Colombian partners since 2015.
Chris and Cristi currently serve with Iglesia Nueva Esperanza (New Hope Church) and its foundation Manos de Esperanza (Hands of Hope). They serve alongside Pastor Jorge and his wife Kristina as an encouragement and support to them in ministry and work with them, ministering to kids, youth, and adults. They focus on discipleship, teaching, proclaiming the gospel, and ministering to needs in the community. They desire to see individuals come to know Christ and walk with Him having their lives transformed by Jesus and truth from the Bible, ultimately leading to the community being transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Ministry: Colombia Field, GO Fund
South America Mission’s countries of service incur costs associated with catalyzing and managing ministry initiatives. We also invest resources in the infrastructure and services necessary to shepherd a vision-driven missionary community (e.g., compliance with local government regulations, operating a field office, stewarding field finances, pastoral care, etc.).
Ministry: Colombia Church Planting
As God’s people live authentically—infusing the world with the grace and mercy of Jesus—the local church takes on the beauty God desires for it. God’s church is a gathering of people through which he works out the purposes of redemption—in individuals, families, cities and nations.
Ministry: Colombia Leadership Training
Colombia Leadership Training benefits those who have demonstrated leadership potential and are engaged in ministry through the church, as well as potential leaders, by providing funding for leadership and professional development opportunities.
