Thurlow, Lily

From a young age, God has cultivated in Lily a passion for working with children. Growing up as a missionary kid in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, she would often visit orphanages. While there, she spent time playing with the kids as well as feeding and holding the babies. Lily accepted Christ at the young age of seven while living in Costa Rica. God has matured her faith through different trials of life and grown her knowledge of him through Christian schooling and personal Bible study. Ever since leaving the mission field at the age of 12, Lily has longed to return.

After moving back to the US, Lily started helping in children’s ministry at church. In the children’s ministry, she learned how to teach and share the Scriptures with children. She also enjoyed working as a tutor in after-school programs. She is excited to work in a ministry where she can help children academically while also being able to bring the truth of Scripture into her teaching.

Lily will join Amanda McKinney in her work at Refugio de Esperanza (The Refuge of Hope) with the Deaf and hard-of-hearing youth in Pucallpa, Peru. She will learn Peruvian Sign Language as she assists Amanda in the classroom for the Deaf students. Eager to join in discipling and educating Deaf youth, she wants them to better understand and know God’s love. She looks forward to watching them grow as Christian believers serving in their church and their community.
