Recife Redemptive Ministry

SAM missionaries, Craig and Mary Delille, walked through Frei Damião, a forgotten section of Dois Unidos, on the outskirts of Recife, Brazil, and knew right away their calling to provide adequate housing to replace the patch-work tin and tarp-covered homes in which many families were living. They soon learned that behind the thin veils of homes were other desperate needs like food and literacy training. Most notably, there was the need to know that God’s love extends to all, especially to the seemingly forgotten.
Partnering with local churches, we respond to encountered needs in Brazil, demonstrating God’s heart for the impoverished in their communities. We minister in peoples’ lives in ways that let them know that God and His people value them. One of those ways is to alleviate suffering through providing adequate housing, food, and clothing. Additionally, we invest personal time, teach, encourage, and counsel, as a means of aligning lives with God’s priorities and will. Some specific ministries include home construction, food baskets, adult literacy, women’s groups, tutoring, computer training, teaching crafts for generating income, a music school and a soccer project.
Our ministry strategy is to encourage, train and partner with the local church, but also NGOs or other like-minded affiliate organizations like City to City Latin America. SAM and City to City are working side-by-side in 2020 to spark a revived church planting movement across key urban centers in Brazil.
