Northeast Brazil

South America Mission partners with local ministries in Northeast Brazil to strengthen the Brazilian Indigenous church, train Indigenous leaders, and mobilize Indigenous missions across the country.

We work in partnership with JUVEP, an interdenominational evangelical mission that has been mobilizing the Brazilian church since 1981. Its mission is to provide theological and missiological training and to plant churches in some of the least evangelized areas of Northeast Brazil and beyond.

JUVEP also offers language acquisition and cultural adaptation training for future SAM missionaries who are preparing to serve in Brazil.

Part of our team is conducting research among the roughly 60 tribal groups in the region, assessing the “state of the Gospel,” and helping to map the ethnic groups of the Northeast. Through the DMI (Department of Indigenous Missions at JUVEP), we coordinate efforts to reach the unreached and unengaged peoples of this vast region.

In addition, our missionaries volunteer at JUVEP Seminary, contributing to the Advanced Studies in Missions program. This specialized program is designed for students who have either completed three years of seminary or hold a bachelor’s degree in another field but seek further preparation for full-time missions, including international service.

We also invest in students by providing engagement opportunities, mentoring, English classes, and healthcare training. As part of our commitment to equipping leaders for the long haul, we are developing and teaching a course on Resilience and Longevity in Missions, helping future missionaries build the endurance and spiritual strength needed for lifelong ministry.
