ACCOUNTING BOOKKEEPER

Overview: The Accounting Bookkeeper is responsible for accurately maintaining daily financial records, including recording income and expenses, processing reimbursements, and reconciling banking and credit card statements. Key tasks include managing accounts payable and receivable, assisting with payroll processing, assisting with budgeting and financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, standards, and organization policies. This role supports the organization’s financial health and involves preparing for audits and managing funds according to donor restrictions and grant requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Data Management: Record, organize, and track all financial transactions, including donations, grants, operational expenses, and other revenue.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process reimbursements, record bill payments, and record any incoming receivables.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Compare bank statements with internal records to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Payroll Processing: Participate in the processing of payroll and attend Personnel Finance Committee meetings.
  • Budgeting & Financial Reporting: Assist with creating and monitoring budgets, tracking spending against the budget, and providing information as requested by department leaders.
  • Grants Management: Help Department leaders track grant spending, monitor fund balances, and ensure proper expense allocation in compliance with grant terms. Support grant application writing by supplying the requested information to writers.
  • Compliance & Internal Controls: Maintain internal controls to prevent fraud, ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and adhere to nonprofit financial regulations and organizational policies.
  • Audit & Tax Support: Prepare financial records for internal or external audits and assist with tax filings, such as FBAR.

Skills and Qualifications

● Proficiency in using Excel and accounting software, such as QuickBooks, GP, or similar.

● Strong understanding of double-entry accounting, including debits, credits, and general ledger maintenance.

● Experience with preparing financial statements and reports.

● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate records.

● Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and regulations preferred.

● Good communication skills to collaborate with leadership, finance staff, other departments, and external accountants.

The Accounting Bookkeeper must have an active and growing relationship with Jesus Christ that includes a faithful, personal walk with The Lord, membership and involvement in a local evangelical church, and a commitment to handling all their personal and professional relationships in a Biblical and Godly manner. CHARITABLE GIVING OFFICER

Overview: The Charitable Giving Officer is responsible for cultivating, stewarding, and expanding relationships with key donors, foundations, and other funding partners to secure sustaining financial support for South America Mission (SAM). This includes ongoing engagement with past and current major donors, identifying and cultivating new donor relationships, and securing grants to support the organization’s mission and vision. The role is essential to ensuring the long-term financial health and sustainability of SAM’s ministry in South America.

Key Responsibilities

  • Donor Engagement: Build strong relationships with current and past donors through personalized communication and updates, ensuring they feel connected to SAM’s mission.
  • New Donor Development: Identify, research, and engage prospective donors through networking, referrals, events, and outreach. Build a pipeline of individuals and families with the capacity and passion to support the mission financially.
  • Planned Giving Management: Promote and manage legacy gifts, such as bequests and retirement plan distributions, working with advisors to align with donors’ goals and SAM’s mission.
  • Grant Writing: Research, write, and submit grant proposals to foundations, ensuring compliance and securing funding aligned with SAM’s vision and mission.
  • Strategic Fundraising Planning: Assist in developing and implementing annual fundraising strategies to meet revenue goals to sustain and expand ministry impact.
  • Reporting & Tracking: Maintain accurate and timely donor records using CRM software, providing regular reports on fundraising outcomes and contributing to donors’ joy in giving.
  • Event Support: Represent SAM at events and assist in planning donor-focused gatherings.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong communication and storytelling skills to share SAM’s impact.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to connect with diverse individuals.
  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising or donor relations strongly preferred.
  • Experience with grant writing and donor management software (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) preferred.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of fundraising and donor stewardship best practices.

As a representative of SAM, the Charitable Giving Officer must embrace the mission, vision, and Christian values associated with our ministry. The Charitable Giving Officer should have an active and growing relationship with Jesus Christ that includes a faithful, personal walk with the Lord, regular involvement in a local evangelical church, and a commitment to handling all personal and professional relationships in a biblical and godly manner. The Officer should demonstrate spiritual maturity, humility, and integrity in all interactions and decisions.
