Swartzendruber, Virginia

Virginia grew up on a family farm in Michigan as the youngest of seven children. Her early education in a one-room schoolhouse sparked a lifelong interest in teaching. After earning a BA in Education and responding to a call to missions, she joined South America Mission.

From 1979 to 2012, Virginia served in Bolivia at the Santa Cruz Christian Learning Center (SCCLC). During her 33-year tenure, she spent most of her time teaching English, educating and nurturing missionary kids (MKs) with a stable, Christ-centered education while their families served in the field. While on furlough, she earned a Master’s in Educational Administration and later transitioned into the role of Principal. Her work at SCCLC allowed her to combine her background in education with her commitment to global missions, impacting generations of students.

Now retired and living in Kansas, Virginia remains active. She is involved with the Hesston Mennonite Brethren Church, enjoys spending time with friends and family, and expresses her creativity through quilting and art.
