The Secrests and the ministry of VASE

December 12th, 2025

This month, we give thanks for retired SAM missionaries Larry and Bonnie Secrest, who continue to pour themselves into the work of the Gospel in Peru. Though officially retired, their hearts remain deeply tied to the people and churches they served for decades, and God continues to use them in meaningful ways.

Larry has long used his gifts in pastoral care and medical outreach to strengthen local churches across Peru. His involvement with Voluntarios en Ayuda Social y Evangelismo (VASE), a Peruvian nonprofit he helped establish, has opened doors for the Gospel by providing medical and dental care in communities with great need. VASE prioritizes working with Peruvian medical professionals while also welcoming support from the U.S., multiplying impact and building local ownership.

Last month, Larry participated in a VASE medical campaign that served two church plants, one high in the mountains of Cusco and another in the lower jungle region of Quillabamba. These clinics offered tangible help, built trust with local families, and encouraged the churches that are faithfully ministering in their communities. After the outreach, Larry stayed in Lima to counsel church leaders and preach in two congregations connected to the ministry.

We thank God for the Secrests, their years of faithful service, their ongoing love for Peru, and their continued presence as encouragers to churches, leaders, and communities.

Please pray:

  • For Larry and Bonnie’s ongoing health, strength, and encouragement.
  • For VASE’s medical campaigns and the Peruvian professionals who serve alongside them.
  • For God to continue using the Secrests’ wisdom and experience to bless the next generation of ministry in Peru.
