The River Ministry in Peru has evolved over the years. In the early days, missionaries traveled the rivers to search for Indigenous groups with little or no outside contact. They also worked with villages and towns that already had established churches.
Over time, a Bible institute called CCB was established. It serves Indigenous students who travel to Pucallpa for Bible training. During this season, SAM also partnered with AIESHC, the Shipibo church association. Together, they coordinated evangelistic outreach and discipleship among students, their home villages, and surrounding communities.
Today, SAM continues its partnership with CCB. The ministry has also renewed outreach among the Ashaninka Indigenous group. This includes supporting a Bible training program that was originally started by SAM.
We are encouraged to see God raising up national missionaries. These leaders carry the gospel from one Indigenous group to another. Looking ahead, we envision walking alongside these national missionaries. Together, we hope to reach several people groups who still have little or no contact with civilization.
