As South America continues to become more urbanized each year, its international focus grows. Many of the young professionals in Latin American cities are looking to learn English for their careers and educational opportunities.
We see the ESL classroom and tutoring relationships as purposeful places where the love of Christ can be shared. Our wide variety of ESL opportunities provide spaces for engaging in tutoring and teaching at professional and informal levels, based on your skillset as a volunteer. Some ESL opportunities are linked to universities, while others are more personal tutoring.
Bolivia: Santa Cruz Universities and Upper Class
We have been running ESL ministries in Bolivia for years alongside an initiative to form a church plant in the upper class of Santa Cruz. The professional class of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, has influence and can transform the city for Christ. We offer group classes and individual tutoring to those interested. Additionally, the local evangelical university in Santa Cruz has hosted ESL teachers, and our connection to university ministries gives us opportunity to tutor university students outside of the professional classroom.
Peru: Pucallpa and Ayacucho
The SAM Peru Team is recruiting missionaries dedicated to reaching communities for Christ. In Pucallpa, SAM Peru is looking for candidates who are willing to utilize ESL as a platform for establishing relationships within the university population. In Ayacucho, SAM Peru needs ESL tutors and teachers interested in working alongside our church plant as they establish relationships within the surrounding community.
Colombia: Private Christian School
Colegio La Esperanza (Hope Christian School) serves the community of Santa Marta, Colombia through education. La Esperanza holds top academic ranking in its state and actively seeks to be a viable education option for local families. Formed out of partnership between Iglésia La Esperanza and South America Mission, the school continues to impact its community and help bring transformation to Colombia’s northern coast. La Esperanza is a Colombian school which operates in Spanish and on a Colombian academic calendar.
All interested candidates should have a background in ESL teaching or tutoring and Spanish language (or should expect to complete Spanish language training before starting ministry). Contact us to begin a conversation today: Preliminary Information Form
